The attorney who grows to be a longstanding and trusted force in the community has clients and much more: He has friendship. He gives more than he receives. The diverse and vibrant community that is Punta Gorda, Charlotte County, Englewood and their surrounding neighbors are better places because of many large events and small gatherings that Michael Haymans has helped to create and sustains.

Peace River Center for Writers

Peace River Center for Writers embraces Haymans as an active poet, writer and mentor. The Punta Gorda Guitar Army salutes him as its musician-founder, the Freedom Swim every 4th of July is part of his wave rippling across Charlotte Harbor.

The Steve Blackwell Folk Music Festival (“SteveFest”), and the Punta Gorda Hibiscus Festival finds Haymans both onstage and behind the scenes at these cultural events.

Building a Zoo

Also in the community, Michael Haymans is the inspiration and voice of “Building a Zoo,” a weekly half hour radio broadcast. “We talk about the relationship between the law, society and the world,” Haymans said. The program is a philosophical look at our political and natural situations that takes its name from a song he wrote about switching up who watches who at the zoo. ” I hope my reports, songs, and commentary are informative and thought provoking,” he says. WCCF Radio, 1580 AM, airs Haymans’ “Building a Zoo” every Thursday from 11:05 a.m. to 11:50 a.m.
